RUC OFFICER SHOT DEAD
The day after Hunger Striker Vol. Bobby Sands MP dies in the Long Kesh Prison, Scotsman Philip Ellis, a former soldier in the British Army moved to Belfast after serving here in Belfast. Constable Ellis aged 33, a married man with 3 children (2 daughters and 1 son) gave up a safe job in Scotland to come and work for the RUC (Royal Ulster Constabulary) in Belfast, Constable Ellis wanted to reach out to the children of The Newlodge and Tigers Bay Area without fear from either side and his aim was to help bring peace between the two communities. Constable Ellies died with a single shot to the head by an IRA Sniper from The Newlodge Area.
